In this role, you’ll apply advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and DRG methodologies to ensure every record accurately reflects the patient’s clinical story and optimizes reimbursement. You’ll serve as a key bridge between clinical documentation, compliance, and financial outcomes, supporting both professional and hospital-based coding within a mission-driven, collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities
· Accurately assign ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS codes for inpatient encounters.
· Ensure precise MS-DRG and APR-DRG assignment for compliant reimbursement.
· Review provider documentation and issue queries for clarification when necessary.
· Collaborate with auditors and DRG validators to resolve discrepancies and enhance documentation integrity.
· Maintain expertise in CMS guidelines, Coding Clinics, and Official Coding Guidelines.
· Apply professional and facility coding principles to ensure complete, accurate capture of patient care episodes.
· Meet and exceed productivity and quality benchmarks consistent with QualCode’s standards of excellence.
Required Qualifications
· Certification: RHIA, RHIT, or CCS (required).
· Experience: Minimum 3+ years of inpatient coding experience in an acute-care hospital or health system.
· Deep understanding of ICD-10-CM/PCS, MS-DRG/APR-DRG grouping, and hospital-based billing requirements.
· Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to work independently in a secure, remote environment while maintaining confidentiality of PHI.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience coding for teaching hospitals, cancer centers, or academic medical centers.
· Familiarity with Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or 3M 360/Encoder systems.
· Exposure to AI-assisted or autonomous coding platforms is a plus.
