Under the supervision of the Inpatient Coding Manager, assigns diagnosis and procedure codes using the ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS classification system, while following published coding guidelines. Abstracts data from the medical record for data collection and the purpose of meeting regulatory agency requirements.
MINIMUM EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION / LICENSURE
Required: High School diploma or equivalent required. Must possess any one of the following accredited health information management program credentials: RHIA/RHIT/CCS or have eligibility for credentialing in-process. RHIT/RHIA eligible employees must become certified within 1 year of graduating from their respective program. 1 year acute inpatient coding preferred.
SPECIAL SKILLS/EQUIPMENT
All candidates must take and pass a coding test at the time of interview. Must be able to read electronic records and be computer savvy. Must be a team player, multi-tasker and strong organization skills. Excellent written/oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Hourly Rate Range
$24.50 - $39.56/hour
